11/7/2012 SAAC Prepares for "Irving Berlin's White Christmas"
 The cast of SAAC’s production, under the direction of Gary Hall, have been hard at work staging the production. The new stage musical, which opened on Broadway in 2006, is based on the Paramount picture of the same name starring Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney and Vera-Ellen.

 The South Arkansas Arts Center (SAAC) will hold an encore performance of "Romance in Concert” as a benefit for the Chris McKnight family. The benefit concert will be hosted in the Callaway Theatre of the SAAC on Thursday, September 13, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 and are available at SAAC. All proceeds go to Chris McKnight and family.

 The Corps of Engineers will hold a public meeting in El Dorado at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 10, at the Municipal Auditorium to hear from constituents about the Vicksburg District's plans to reduce the operations of all four locks from full service (24/7/365) to two shifts daily in July 2012, and in 2013 could further reduce the services at the two Arkansas locks to weekend and holiday operations only.

4/16/2013 Chamber Announces Three Finalists for Administrative Professional of the Year
 Three finalists have been selected for the first Administrative Professional of the Year Award, which will be presented by the El Dorado Chamber of Commerce at the upcoming Administrative Professionals Appreciation Luncheon on April 24 at the El Dorado Conference Center. The three finalists are: Ronda Jolley with South Arkansas Otolaryngology – Dr. Richard C. Pillsbury; Rhonda Q. Jones with Cross Oil Refining and Marketing; and Susan Jordan with South Arkansas Community College.

Murphy boardroom of the El Dorado Chamber of Commerce on Thursday to hear the announcement of the winners of an annual essay contest to determine who will lead the 2012 El Dorado Christmas Parade presented by Union Power Partners.

 The El Dorado Chamber of Commerce is now accepting applications for Leadership Union County Class 2. The 10-month program, which begins Feb 27, is designed to strengthen the community by developing leadership through community interaction, teamwork, networking and hands-on experiences.

1/3/2013 Carroll Invested as Circuit Court Judge
 After serving two terms as prosecuting attorney for the 13th Judicial District, Robin J. Carroll on Wednesday became the first elected prosecutor to become a circuit judge in the district in 40 years and the second youngest elected judge in Arkansas.
4/4/2013 Bugs, Bands & Bikes Set for May 10 and 11
 Southern Bancorp and Main Street El Dorado will host its annual Bugs, Bands & Bikes Weekend on May 10 and 11 in historic downtown El Dorado. The festival, which was recently featured on CNN, is celebrating its 13th anniversary with a weekend filled with mudbugs, music and motorcycles.

 A 1,360-pound steer set a record this year at the 38th Annual Junior Livestock Show with a sale of $9 per pound, reaping $12,240 for owner James Hampton who paraded the massive animal in front of nearly 100 listed buyers early Friday afternoon.
5/21/2012 13th South Judicial District Receives $5,000 Plum Creek Foundation Grant
 The 13th South Judicial District Court Appointed Special Advocates program, a non-profit organization providing a voice to children in the juvenile justice system, was awarded a $5,000 grant from the Plum Creek Foundation. Funds will support the program’s child advocacy project in Union County.
