There is no time quite like the celebration that occurs during the Christmas holidays. It all begins with the annual Downtown Lighting Ceremony hosted by Main Street El Dorado and the Downtown Business Association in November. Traditional red and green lights illuminate Union Square and the Union County Courthouse. The sounds of the season invoke warm memories while strolling tree-lined streets and celebrating this festive time of the year. The holiday lights, train rides for the kids, carriage rides for the family, and the Murphy Arts District MAD on Ice are all wonderful ways to create memories. Save the date – the El Dorado Christmas Parade is always held on the first Thursday in December at 7:00 p.m. This annual event features several categories of floats of all sizes and cash prizes are awarded in each category. Parade-goers line up along North West Avenue and many assemble downtown on Main Street to view the amazing floats along the backdrop of the holiday lights. Touted as the largest Christmas Parade in Arkansas, the route begins on 18th street and ends at the intersection of Peach and Jefferson Streets.

The Arkansas Museum of Natural Resources comes to life each Friday and Saturday night from mid-November to late-December from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Each lighted scene represents the sights of the winter holiday season. Visit the Ice Castle and jam with Santa’s band before warming up with a cup of hot cocoa in the museum gift shop
Admission: $5 for adults, $3 for children under 10.
