I. Primary Work Functions
Under general supervision from the Regional CEO, and in close collaboration with the Leadership Council Chair(s), serves as the "face” of Red Cross throughout the assigned geographic area. In close collaboration with the Chief Development Officer, the area manager provides leadership to and is accountable for achieving fundraising targets, developing and ensuring positive community relationships and partnerships within the assigned geographic area. The area manager will work collaboratively with the disaster zone manager and state volunteer manager to improve the resiliency of the communities they support to recover from natural and man-made disasters. The area manager will manage expenses within their realm of responsibility and authority. The area manager will promote the growth, quality and consistency of American Red Cross service delivery throughout the geographic area. The area manager is a member of the Regional Management Team.
II. Major Job Functions and Responsibilities
1. Serves as the primary leadership of the Red Cross within the assigned geographic area. Provides primary staff support to the Leadership Council(s). Council meets at least quarterly to address local volunteer, programmatic, material, financial and service delivery activities, trends and issues. Every Leadership Council meeting includes Area fundraising results and programmatic data to track identifiable progress against performance expectations. Meeting documentation is maintained locally with copies for the Region’s Management Office. Leadership Council membership recommendations are communicated to the Chapter in a timely fashion for Nominations Committee consideration and disposition.
2. Manages all assigned Area Office paid and volunteer resources. Ensures each employee has written fiscal year performance expectations and a written annual evaluation. Employees are provided an opportunity for professional growth and development through Chapter and community sponsored training activities. Leadership and service volunteers are thoughtfully recruited, placed and developed.
3. Ensures coordinated Red Cross outreach to, and partnerships with, Red Cross team members and external constituents, including local and county government, donors, community leaders, corporate partners and other community charitable and social service agencies
4. Serves as the lead fundraiser within the assigned geographic jurisdiction; responsible for assigned donor portfolio cultivation, meets and grows fundraising and revenue goals; engages Leadership Council members to implement fundraising strategies identified in the Region Financial Development Plan
5. Works in close collaboration with the Leadership Council to help build and broaden partnerships
6. Builds local capacity for service delivery through the effective involvement and engagement of volunteers and partners
7. Ensures that support and back office operations activities are coordinated with the Region Accountant and Chief Development Officer.
8. It is the responsibility of all Red Cross staff members to recruit, train, and work with volunteers and to treat all clients, volunteers, guests, and other employees in a courteous and respectful manner at all times while maintaining a cooperative atmosphere for everyone. It is expected that each member of the regional management team to work to ensure key volunteers are utilized and ensure depth and capacity within the function.
9. Manages all assigned material resources and capital assets. Ensures the routine and scheduled maintenance of the building, vehicles and related program assets. Establishes and implements required security and safety measures to protect American Red Cross property.
10. Carries out any additional assignments required to fulfill the Mission of the American Red Cross
III. Delegated Authority:
· Supervision of and direct support to assigned paid staff and volunteer resources
· Management of local financial requirements
· Management and stewardship of assigned material and equipment assets
· Lead staff relationship with United Way executives within assigned geography
IV. Working Relationships:
· Internal – Ensures productive and mutually supportive relationship within the Division, Chapter, Blood Region, and National Red Cross staff and volunteers
· External – Clients and their families, customers, general public, city and county government and emergency management officials, schools, businesses, churches, local civic, social and fraternal organizations
