Advantage Staffing is currently recruiting on behalf of Union  Power Station, located in Calion, AR.  Union Power Station is a 2250 megawatt facility, owned by Entegra Power, and is the largest combined-cycle IPP facility in the country.  Here follows  a job description as well as an outline of the testing and selection procedures.: 

 

Job Description:

Generation Process Specialist (GPS):  

Must be willing to actively participate in a multi-skilled operations team to perform all maintenance and operating tasks associated with a combined cycle power station.  The GPS will provide craft technical support in one or more of the following fields: mechanical, electrical, or instrument and controls. High school diploma or equivalent is required. Additional training or AA degree preferred. Experience in the operation and maintenance of combined-cycle independent power plants (IPPs) and/or merchant plants is desired. Rotating 12-hour shifts subject to scheduled or unscheduled overtime.  

Basic Qualifications: 

*Must possess the ability to use a variety of complex equipment and machinery and operate computer equipment

*Must be able to work in a self-managed work team without daily supervision

*Must be able to work independently and cooperate with other team members

*Must have knowledge of detailed safety rules and regulations

*Must have problem-solving skills in order to monitor plant performance and be capable of identifying mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation/controls problems, as well as performing the corrective action to correct the problems.  Must also have the ability to apply general procedures to specific situations.

*Must be multi-skilled in at least two of the following: plant operations (required for all GPS personnel), mechanical maintenance, electrical maintenance, or instrumentation and controls:

Mechanical maintenance craftsmen must have a minimum of four (4) years directly related mechanical experience with large industrial equipment including pumps, fans, and high-speed rotating equipment. Must have two of the following three skills: experience with precision measuring instruments for alignment and balancing, bearing inspection and repair, and cutting and welding.

Instrument and Control craftsmen must have a minimum of four (4) years directly related experience in maintenance and troubleshooting of distributed control systems, programmable logic controllers, and field devices including transmitters, control valves, meters and process analytical devices.

Electrical craftsmen must have four (4) years directly related electrical maintenance experience with large industrial electrical equipment. Candidate must have demonstrated skills in the maintenance and troubleshooting of medium voltage switchgear to 13.8kV, large electric motors and relay control circuits.

 

Requirements:

Selection Process:

The first step in the process is to take a battery of tests. This usually takes about four hours (not including travel time). 

A time can be set up to take the tests in the offices of Advantage Staffing, 814 Mount Holly Road, El Dorado (870-862-3000)   Please call to make an appointment.

The tests cover the following material:  Reading comprehension, basic math (including decimals and fractions and measurements), an additional math test covering basic algebra, a mechanical concepts test and then the skill test for your particular area of maintenance expertise, i.e. Mechanical, Electrical or Instrumentation and Control.

If you have a minimum of four years experience in more than one of the above mentioned skills, you are eligible to take two skills tests.  In order to qualify for an interview, you must make at least 80% on each test.

The results of the tests will be processed quickly and interviews will be set up shortly thereafter for those who qualify. The rest of the selection process involves multiple interviews, held at the plant site, and will require about a six hour block of time. The interviews are all conducted on the same day.
