Award-Winning Classical Guitarist to Perform at SAAC

Award-winning classical guitarist Peter Fletcher will perform a diverse program of music ranging from four centuries when he makes a return visit to the South Arkansas Arts Center at 7:00 p.m. on Feb. 23.

The South Arkansas Arts Center is located at 110 E. Fifth St. in El Dorado, and admission to the concert is free.

According to a release, "this concert is part of a nationwide tour, under the auspices of Phillip Truckenbrod Concert Artists, which will culminate with a highly-regarded appearance in New York at Weill Recital Hall of Carnegie Hall on April 6, 2013.

"Major works will include the Bach ?Chaconne? and ?Suite Compostelana? by the Catalan composer Federico Mompou. The year 2013 is the 115th anniversary of Mompou?s birth. Fletcher recorded a highly acclaimed CD of his music on Centaur Records (CRC 2588, 2002).

"Fletcher will also perform music from Michael Praetorius?s ?Terpsichore,? ?Jesu Joy of Man?s Desiring? by Bach, ?Villanesca? by Spanish composer Enrique Granados, two pieces from ?Mother Goose Suite? by Maurice Ravel, ?Leyenda? by Isaac Albeniz and ?Cavatina? from the movie ?The Deer Hunter? by Stanley Myers.

"The final work on the program is Fletcher?s transcription of Paganini?s dazzling ?Caprice No. 24.?
