El Dorado Downtown Named a Top Ten Business District

Posted on May 14, 2013

Southern Business & Development (SB&D) magazine and its companion website, SB-D.com, listed El Dorado as one of the "Ten Wonderful Small Town Central Business Districts in the South? in a recent issue.

"I've known Mike Randle of SB&D for years, and recently had the opportunity to show him around El Dorado,? said Chamber President & CEO Henry Florsheim. "It's always gratifying when someone like that has such a high opinion of what we're doing. This recognition is the latest in a string of positive feedback our community has received from outside the area."

The article described El Dorado has having a major come back in recent years, citing CNN?s recent recognition, current expansions of major industrial employers, downtown El Dorado, the positive changes occurring at Murphy Oil Corp. and Murphy USA and projected progress to the downtown area.

An excerpt from the feature reads:

"Not only does downtown El Dorado serve as the banking and legal center of the region, redevelopment efforts have created an upbeat environment featuring dozens of restaurants, coffee shops and unique retailers. El Dorado's next step is a $50 million public/private partnership to develop an entertainment district at the southern end of downtown, including parks, a public market, outdoor performance spaces and a complete overhaul of the historic Rialto Theatre. This district will serve as home to the Southern Theatre Festival, a year-round series of live theatre productions focused on Southern art and culture.?

Other cities included in the feature were Bardstown and Danville, Ky.; Sumter, S.C.; Bradentown, Fla.; Columbus, Miss.; Harrisonburg, Va.; Stuart, Fla.; and Bastrop and Georgetown, Texas. To read the full feature, click here.
