Crossett Harbor in Felsenthal National Wildlife Refuge will be the site of Riverbank Products? first Frog Giggin? Tournament on May 11.
Riverbanks Products created the event as a way to get people outdoors together enjoying nature and having fun. The company makes and sells the NightRunner spotlight, the first commercially available hand held marine spotlight with integrated tilt and trim controls designed to help boaters navigate safely at night.
"Frog giggin? is a relatively inexpensive sport, and anyone ? from kids to adults ? can participate,? said Chris Porter, president of El Dorado-based Riverbank Products. "I wanted to do this tournament in south Arkansas to highlight our great natural resources, and to bring a fun, safe outdoor sporting event to the area.?
Unlike a Bass tournament, this is a team event and is limited to 100 three-member teams. Teams may use only one boat. Total bag limit per individual is 10 frogs, and biggest frog and biggest bag weight will receive payouts. Pay outs will increase by 25 percent if a child younger than 16 is a member of the team.
The weigh-in data about the frogs that are collected will be passed along to US Fish & Wildlife as well as Arkansas Game and Fish to help monitor frog populations in the area.
"We are working closely with Arkansas Game and Fish Commission and US Fish & Wildlife on this event. Outdoorsmen are true conservationist and this is a perfect example of how hunters and fishermen are working together with both federal and state agencies to have fun while protecting the great resources that we enjoy,? Porter said.
Entry fee is $60 per team until May 1, and will increase to $75 after May 1. You can register one of two ways.
