SAAC Prepares for Festival of Trees

Posted on November 11, 2012

The Visual Arts Committee of the South Arkansas Arts Center is busy preparing for an El Dorado tradition, "The Festival of Trees.? The annual exhibition of evergreens sponsored by Deltic Timber will be in the galleries November 29 through December 9.

"There are only three trees left for adoption by local businesses, civic and social clubs or individuals,? said Kelly Campbell, SAAC?s point of contact for the festival.

Once again, SAAC is working hand in hand with Captain and Mrs. Carr of The Salvation Army to help brighten the holiday for area families in need. Play Santa for a family and make a child?s "Wish List? come true. Don?t miss your opportunity to make a family?s day merry and bright.

Lend a hand decorating the trees and transform the Galleries of SAAC into a celebration of generosity, friendship, and community just like the Christmases we used to know. The title of this year?s theme, "May your Christmas be Merry and Bright? is taken from the title song "White Christmas? from the upcoming holiday production of "Irving Berlin?s White Christmas.?

Trees will be provided and are to be decorated on November 26 and 27 from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Come early to pick the tree of your choice. SAAC and Deltic Timber give away the trees after the festival and SAAC invites you to donate your tree?s decorations too. The trees will go to families in need, chosen by The Salvation Army, or you may deliver it to the charitable destination of your choice. If you select a Salvation Army family to receive your tree and you send along a few gifts for the family, SAAC will give you two tickets to "Irving Berlin?s White Christmas? to say thank you.

To adopt a tree or foster a family, contact the SAAC office at (870) 862-5474. For more information about El Dorado?s "The Festival of Trees,? visit www.saac-arts.org. "
