EL DORADO — Fall commencement at South Arkansas Community College will be held at 7 p.m. on Dec. 15 at the El Dorado Conference Center. The guest speaker will be Steve Cousins, chairman of the college’s board of trustees.

He is the executive director of both Arkansas Gas Consumers and of Arkansas Electric Energy Consumers. These associations represent certain large users of electricity and natural gas in regulatory and legislative matters. He also is a government relations consultant and an expert witness in legal proceedings.

Cousins retired as vice president and general manager at Lion Oil in El Dorado earlier this year after 38 years of employment at the company. He began at Lion Oil as a process engineer in 1978, eventually graduating to manager of that department, plant manager, vice president of refining and vice president of governmental affairs.

In addition to his position on SouthArk’s board, Cousins is also chair of the SHARE Foundation Board and a member of the Arkansas State Chamber of Commerce Executive Committee, the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, the Arkansas Academy of Chemical Engineers and the University of Arkansas Industrial and Professional Advisory Council. He is a former chairman of the Associated Industries of Arkansas and a former member of the American Fuel and Petrochemical Manufacturers Manufacturing, Steering and Policy Committees.

Cousins is a licensed professional engineer in the State of Arkansas and a distinguished alumni award recipient from the College of Engineering at the University of Arkansas.
